Reflecting on Australia’s Indigenous People’s Apology Anniversary 🖤💛❤️

On February 13, 2008, a momentous chapter in our nation’s history unfolded as Prime Minister Kevin Rudd issued a heartfelt apology to the Stolen Generations. The impact of past government practices, including forced child removal and assimilation, has left profound scars on the lives of Indigenous Australians. 📄

The Prime Minister expressed:

“We apologise for the laws and policies of successive Parliaments and governments that have inflicted profound grief, suffering and loss on these our fellow Australians. We apologise especially for the removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, their communities and their country.”

This apology marked a pivotal moment, signifying overdue respect and solidarity with Indigenous Australians. It initiated a journey towards policies and legislation designed to empower Aboriginal Australians once again. 🦘

At Kildare Road Medical Centre, we acknowledge the importance and sensitivity of this anniversary. If you wish to discuss the impacts of this day on you, our compassionate team is here to listen and support you. 🤝

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month: Supporting Women’s Health in Blacktown

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month is an important time to increase understanding of ovarian cancer — a condition that can be difficult to detect in its early stages. Raising awareness of symptoms and encouraging timely medical review can play a key role in improving outcomes.

At Kildare Road Medical Centre, the Women’s Health Clinic supports women across Blacktown and Western Sydney with access to personalised care, education, and guidance focused on long-term women’s health.

Why Ovarian Cancer Awareness Matters

Ovarian cancer is often referred to as a “silent” condition because symptoms can be subtle, vague, or mistaken for common health issues. This makes awareness and early discussion especially important.

Some symptoms that may warrant medical review include:

  • Persistent bloating or abdominal swelling

  • Pelvic or abdominal pain

  • Changes in appetite or feeling full quickly

  • Urinary urgency or frequency

  • Ongoing fatigue or unexplained changes in weight

While these symptoms are often caused by non-serious conditions, persistent or unusual changes should be discussed with a GP.

Women’s Health Notes and Preventive Care

There is currently no routine screening test for ovarian cancer for women without symptoms. For this reason, regular check-ups and early assessment of symptoms are essential.

A GP consulting from the Women’s Health Clinic can:

  • Discuss symptoms and medical history

  • Perform appropriate clinical assessments

  • Arrange investigations or referral pathways if clinically required

  • Provide reassurance and ongoing monitoring when appropriate

Taking a proactive approach allows concerns to be addressed early and supports informed decision-making.

A Supportive Approach to Women’s Health

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month also highlights the importance of access to respectful, compassionate care. Women’s health concerns can be complex, and having time to discuss symptoms openly is an important part of care.

The Women’s Health Clinic provides access to consultations that support:

  • Gynaecological and reproductive health

  • Preventive women’s health care

  • Ongoing health concerns across different life stages

Care is delivered in a confidential and supportive environment, with access to specialist referrals when needed.

Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month: Awareness Starts With Conversation

Support for women’s health is available year-round at Kildare Road Medical Centre.
