Dr Nancy Wong’s areas of interest

While Dr Wong enjoys the broad range of medicine encountered in general practice, she has particular interests in:

  • Skin cancer medicine
  • Skin checks
  • Dermatology and skin conditions
  • Women’s health
  • Weight management
  • Children’s health
  • Preventative healthcare
  • Family medicine

Patients do not need to have a skin concern to make an appointment with Dr Wong. She provides general practice care for a broad range of health concerns across different stages of life.

Skin checks in Blacktown

Australia has one of the world’s highest burdens of skin cancer, making awareness of changes in the skin an important part of preventative healthcare.

Dr Wong has undertaken additional education in skin cancer medicine and skin assessment, including:

  • Professional Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine
  • Professional Certificate of Skin Cancer Surgery
  • Professional Certificate in Dermoscopy
  • Diploma of Dermatological Science from Cardiff, UK

Patients may choose to make an appointment with Dr Wong if they have noticed a new or changing mole, spot or skin lesion, have concerns about sun damage, or would like to discuss whether a skin check may be appropriate for them.

During a consultation, Dr Wong can assess the patient’s individual concerns and, where clinically appropriate, discuss monitoring, investigation, treatment or referral.

Dermatology and skin conditions

Dr Wong also has a longstanding interest in the diagnosis and management of common skin conditions.

Patients may consult her about a range of skin concerns, such as persistent rashes, changes in the appearance of the skin or other symptoms requiring medical assessment.

Because many skin conditions can have similar appearances, an individual medical assessment is important in determining appropriate next steps.

Where a condition requires specialist assessment or treatment, Dr Wong can discuss referral options with the patient.

Women’s health

Women’s health is another area of particular interest for Dr Nancy Wong.

General practice can provide continuity of care across different stages of a woman’s life, from reproductive and preventative healthcare through to health concerns that arise later in life.

Patients can make an appointment with Dr Wong to discuss their individual health concerns, preventative healthcare and appropriate screening.

The specific assessment, investigation or treatment recommended will depend on the patient’s circumstances and clinical needs.

Children’s health and family medicine

Dr Wong enjoys caring for children and families and holds a Diploma of Child Health.

Children’s healthcare in general practice can include assessment of acute illness, ongoing health concerns, growth and development, preventative healthcare and other issues that parents or carers would like to discuss with a GP.

Her broader background in Family Medicine also means patients can see Dr Wong for a wide variety of general practice concerns rather than only her particular areas of clinical interest.

Weight management

Dr Wong also has an interest in weight management.

Weight can be influenced by many factors, including nutrition, physical activity, medications, sleep, medical conditions and individual circumstances.

A GP consultation provides an opportunity to consider these factors in the context of a patient’s broader health rather than treating weight in isolation.

Where appropriate, Dr Wong can discuss individual health goals, relevant medical assessment and potential management options.

Preventative healthcare

Preventative medicine is an important component of general practice.

Depending on a patient’s age, medical history and individual risk factors, preventative healthcare may include discussion of:

  • Cardiovascular risk
  • Blood pressure
  • Diabetes risk
  • Cancer screening
  • Immunisation
  • Lifestyle factors
  • Women’s health screening
  • Children’s health
  • Skin cancer risk

Recommendations will vary according to the individual patient.
